Volcano near Tokyo erupts for the first time in 4 years, alert level raised to three out of five
Mount Asama, almost 90 miles (140 kilometers) away from the capital of Japan, erupted overnight for the first time in 4 years. The eruption threw smoke and ash almost 2 kilometers into the sky.
Nation’s metrological agency raised the alert to level 3 out of 5, which means that the volcano should be avoided by people.
The agency has warned that a radius of four kilometers around the crater could be affected by large rocks and fast-moving flows of hot gas and depending upon the prevailing winds the nearby towns could be hit by smaller rocks and ash.
As reported by an agency to AFP on Thursday, that the volcano was still throwing gas into the air, but the level was not to be very concerned about.
Last time, the volcano erupted on June 2015, but it was very small and didn’t cause any injuries.
